Caruana on top in Delhi

Fabiano Caruana
 All the games (23 ko)

The AAII event in Delhi featured five youthful players and Indian No.2 Sasikiran, who must have felt like a veteran (at 30 years old) in this company! Italian Fabiano Caruana led throughout and, despite a ninth round loss to Laznicka, always looked deemed to win the event. Hou Yifan finished bottom as her poor run of form continues.

One of the strongest closed tournaments to have ever taken place in India has just finished, with the favourite Fabiano Caruana finishing ahead by a clear point. In second place, the Indian Krishnan Sasikiran was also in good form.

AAII stands for 'Airports Authority of India International'.

6. Hou Yifan (3 women) 17  CHN 2612 0 0 0 ½ 0 ½ ½ ½ 0 1 * * 3,0 2523 -13

Naturally an excellent result for the top two. In Caruana's case, a gain of eleven rating points would lift him about ten places in the world rankings!

Hou Yifan's thirteen point loss drops her down to virtually the same level as the Kosintseva sisters, so she is in danger of losing her third place in the Women's World rankings.
