Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia is the venue for the first in a new series of Grand Prix events for Women. Seven of the World's Top Ten are involved including the World Champion Hou Yifan. A tournament that qualifies for being the strongest ever for women!

Rostov-on-Don is the venue from the 1st-15th of August for this exceptional event. The previous series for Women was highly successful. The present one, of six events, will lead to a challenger being designated to meet the present World Champion Hou Yifan in 2013 over ten games.

The average rating is a couple of points higher than that seen last month in Hangzhou, China, so the record is again broken: Which means that we have the strongest ever all-women event!

Here is a list of the participants:

No draws by direct propositions to the opponent, only with the chief arbiter's agreement. He will have instructions to accept only repetitions, perpetual check, book draws and the fifty move rule. Otherwise no offers or acceptances!
This means (presumably) that very drawish endgames will have to be played out until they are dead drawn, or until the players can 'tactically arrange' a repetition!

The 12-player, 11 round robin will have 90'/40 (+30") followed by 30' KO (+30").

In future, on this site, I will express time controls as above. This time however I will express this in long-format, so that you will be better able to understand the notation:
90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30 second increment from move one.
