Adams beat Nigel Short in their play-off match this morning and thus won the 98th British Championship in Pond's Forge, near Sheffield. After a comfortable draw in their first rapid game, Adams seized the advantage on the queenside and created decisive threats against Short's king, in the second and final rapidplay decider.
