The traditional Hastings tournament was won by the Chinese star Wang Yue. He finished ahead of the field after never being in danger throughout the nine rounds of the tournament.
The Indian contingent impressed and took four of the top seven places, with Babu Lalith and Sundar Shyam both obtaining GM norms.
Andrei Istratescu came up to equal second by winning his last three rounds. Babu Lalith achieved 2650+ and had his norm even before his last round draw, whereas Sundar Shyam managed a 2600+ performance despite losing his first round game.
