Shock winner in Groningen

A 13-year-old from Ukraine Ilya Nynzhnyk wins a full point ahead of his closest rivals in a very strong field!
The world will no doubt soon hear more about the lad who seems destined for great things.

The end of December 2009 will be remembered in the Netherlands due to the wunderkind from Ukraine. He comfortably won this prestigious tournament ahead of a host of useful grandmasters. Making, on his way, his second GM norm with a performance at 2741.

His victims included Chadaev (2567), Spike Ernst (2587) and Deviatkin (2608). Believe me, it won't be long before he gets the title.

During the tournament there was a dual between Dutch legend Jan Timman GM (2581) and the up-and-coming 15-year old Robin Van Kampen IM (2456) was played. Timman's experience led to him winning 2.5-1.5, including victories in the first and last games.
