Stefanova trips up Cmilyte

Former World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova took on runaway leader Viktorija Cmilyte in today's top board encounter and won. These two are among seven players who share the lead, the others being two former champions Kateryna Lahno and Pia Cramling along with Bela Khotenashvili, Marina Romanko and Lela Javakhishvili.

Decisive games on the top six boards has left the tournament wide open.

The seven leaders represent six different countries, with two of these, Bela Khotenashvili and Lela Javakhishvili coming from Georgia.

Here's a table from Wikipedia which shows the medal winners from previous European Championships. Stefanova struck gold in 2002 and has since picked up both silver and bronze.

Viktorija Cmilyte is also a three times medalist, but in her case she only has a collection of silvers to her name. Note that in 2010 as well as in 2003 she found herself denied by Pia Cramling.
