    Baadur Jobava now has seven points out of eight after his win over top seed Zoltan Almasi. What a great tournament he is having! Three players are on his heels, Ivan Sokolov and Ian Nepomniatchi who both won today along with Zahar Efimenko.

    The 19th edition of the famous Melody Amber tournament will take place this year at the elegant Mediterranean Palace in Nice. It will run from tomorrow (Saturday the 13th) until the 25th of March.

    Efimenko is one of four leaders, and having drawn with Black today against Jobava has the advantage of playing with White tomorrow.
    Nisipeanu, who beat Pelletier, and Timofeev, who overcame Skiborne, make up the four at the top.

    Montpellier-based Swiss grandmaster Yannick Pelletier caused the biggest upset in the third round by beating David Navara with the black pieces.
    In the fourth round Jobava and Efimenko were the winners at the top (both won with Black!) to become the only two on 4/4.
    In the Women's event Monika Socko is sole leader.

    It's International Women's day today and the Kosintseva sisters were both amongst the leading pack before today's game.

    Vallejo Pons advanced his kingside pawns precociously against the English, which could be described as provocation or even a sign of disrespect for his opponent!
    Topalov doesn't mind a scrap and was the most practical player as chalked up yet another win.
    On my calculations, if the tournament stopped here Topalov would be number one in the world again!

    The other winner of the day was Vugar Gashimov who has every reason to be happy with his first win in Linares. The first black win in Linares 2010 and with his trademark Modern Benoni.

    Ian Nepomniachtchi made his way back to the top board in the Moscow Aeroflot event two years after becoming champion.
    This time the outcome was less happy for him! He lost in the final round enabling Le (see yesterday's photo) to become outright winner and pocket a handy 21,000 Euros.
